Wings boss Adrian Pennock stuck with the side that defeated Bognor Regis Town 2-0 on Tuesday evening.

The Wings started brightly with an up-tempo feel to their play, and the visiting side could have been in front early on. Danny Kedwell flicked on a Jamie Day free kick but Alan Calton in the Cambridge goal comfortably saved the first attempt of the match.

Welling continued to attack and when a miss clearance from the City defence fell to Matt Bodkin, Alan Calton was required to make a magnificent save to deny the midfielder. Further chances for the Wings went begging which allowed the home side to get a foothold back in the game.

Craig Dobson was causing the Wings numerous problems and some good link-up play with ex-Wings striker Paul Booth allowed Dale Binns a shot at goal, but Jamie Turner comfortably saved his effort on goal. Binns again went close when the midfielder collected a lose ball and beat three Wings defenders before shooting inches wide of the goal.

The second half continued much like the first half ended with City controlling possession, however, they failed to create any further clear-cut chances. Arguably the best opportunity of the game fell to Danny Kedwell when the Wings marksman's free kick was fired agonisingly wide of the post.

The impressive Matt Bodkin saw another of his efforts saved when he hit a low drive from the edge of the area, which almost wrong footed Calton in the City goal, but the keeper managed to change direction and save the shot.

The final minutes of the game were a nervous one for the Wings fans as City were putting the visitors under increasing pressure. Further chances for Michael Gash and Greg Lincoln were both wasted. Leon Solomon nearly capitalised in the last few minutes when the defender had his shot saved by the City keeper.

Nevertheless the game ended in a draw and both sides will probably be happy with the point. The Wings have two vital games, which they will be expected to win. Basingstoke Town are welcomed to Park View Road on Saturday and then on the Tuesday the Wings travel to bottom side Carshalton Athletic.

Come on you Wings!
