With Welling losing two games on the trot the home crowd were hoping the Wings would continue their 100% Saturday record with a win over Braintree. Boss Adrian Pennock made just the one change from the side that lost 1-0 away to Salisbury City, with Matt Bodkin replacing Martin Carthy in midfield.

However, it would not be the confident start the Park View Road faithful were hoping for, with the visitors having the better of the first period. Braintree took a deserved early lead just 9 minutes into the game.

Louis Riddle won his side a free-kick on the edge of the area after Steve Perkins fouled the former West Ham player. Robbie Martin stepped up to curl the ball over the wall into the back of the net, leaving keeper Jamie Turner stranded.

The Iron continued to attack and should have doubled their lead on 24 minutes. Robbie Martin's corner was met by former Wings player Billy Burgess at the far post but somehow he headed over from three yards out.

This didn't deter the visitors as they continued to press forward and again went close from a corner. Martin's set piece found Burgess at the near post where Ellis Green cleared his sliding effort off the line.

Louis Riddle who had been tussling with Steve Perkins all game had earlier been shown a yellow card for a late challenge on the midfielder. 4 minutes before the break and Riddle was shown a second yellow for a second late foul on Perkins.

Nevertheless, this wouldn’t be the last time Perkins was involved in controversy as he would also see red along with Braintree's Bradley Quinton just two minutes later. Perkins late challenge on Andy Porter was adjudged worthy of a red before Iron captain Quinton was sent packing for his involvement in the resulting scuffle.

Into the second half and Welling made the most of their one-man advantage, with Braintree happy to defend deep. Matt Bodkin went close 5 minutes into the half when his bending shot flew just wide. The visitors were finally broken down 20 minutes before the end, when Danny Kedwell fired the ball home from just inside the area.

It wouldn't take long before Adrian Pennock's side took a deserved second half lead. Jamie Day's corner was headed on by Kedwell where Martin Carthy diverted the ball past Iron keeper Nick Morgan.

Substitute Ronayne Benjamin then got in on the goal scoring action on 82 minutes. The young midfielder scored his first for the club sending a delightful chip over the keeper from all of 20 yards.

Danny Kedwell went close firing a powerful volley narrowly wide before the Wings leading marksmen grabbed his second brace of the season. Day's pinpoint pass through the Braintree defence allowed Kedwell to round the keeper and slot the ball home.

Welling visit Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday hoping to end the Sports unbeaten home record and if they play like they did in the second half they will have every chance of doing so.

Extracts from the Interview:
"A good result, an eventful game very good for the neutral and again we scored a lot of goals which is nice. Last home game it was 5-1 against Yeading and then 4-1 today, which is good for the fans, and it was an exciting game.

At halftime I told the boys they have be patient, we have to use our width in Ellis and Bodkin. My hand was forced when Che got injured so we put Ronayne on and in the end we deserved the three points."
