Welling United moved up to 2nd in the table after impressive 3-0 win at home to Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday evening. Three second-half goals from Steve Perkins, Danny Kedwell and Martin Carthy wrapped up the victory for the Wings.

Bognor started the game brightly and went close just minutes into the game. The Wings defence were caught napping when the Rocks fired just over after a quickly taken free-kick.

The homeside were reduced to half chances as Danny Kedwell fired wide on 14 minutes, before Ben Lewis drove the ball over from the edge of the area after 36 minutes.

The best opportunity of the first period fell to the Rocks just five minutes before the break. A right-wing corner found Stuart Tuck unmarked at the back post where the defender saw his shot cannon off the upright after taking two deflections.

The second half was a vast improvement on the first with the homeside coming out with a renewed vigour. Kedwell found himself through on goal five minutes after the restart but a decent save from Craig Stoner denied the Wings top scorer.

Moments later Welling took the lead when Steve Perkins was on hand to head in Jamie Day's left-wing free-kick at the near post.

The Wings continued to attack with Jamie Day going close on 75 minutes when his effort was tipped over by the Rocks keeper.

The homeside eventually made their pressure count as they doubled their lead in the 82nd minute. Matt Bodkin pulled back a cross from the byline, which was cleverly left by Martin Carthy for Kedwell who rifled the ball home.

Welling sealed their victory perfectly four minutes before the final whistle. Carthy turned in Kedwell’s shot for his 5th goal of the season.

Welling are again at home on Saturday when Newport County are the visitors for this Nationwide Conference South fixture.

Come on you Wings!
