Welling United were left wondering whether they should have secured more than a point against Bognor Regis Town on Saturday afternoon. The Wings drew 1-1 with the Rocks but had they taken a number of early opportunities the game may have ended differently. However, on a more positive note, Boss Adrian Pennock will be happy his side ended their three-game losing streak.

The Wings had the better of the opening exchanges and went close to taking the lead within six minutes of kick-off. Danny Kedwell shrugged off the challenge from the Rocks defence before pulling the ball across goal for Martin Carthy who could only manage to fire over from yards out.

Minutes later Kedwell's miss-hit shot was nearly nodded home by Ellis Green but the midfielder couldn't quiet get enough on his header. The Wings top-scorer was again involved when the striker saw his volley fizz wide on 21 minutes.

The home side created very little in front of goal with Scott Chamberlain going closest with his header on 28 minutes.

Welling almost broke through five minutes before the break. Jamie Day's ball found Kedwell inside the box where the striker fired low, forcing Craig Stoner into a brilliant save.

However, despite a good first half the visitors found themselves behind just a minute after the restart. The Wings were caught napping when they allowed Dan Beck to head across goal for Ben Watson to score from close range.

Beck looked set to double his sides’ lead but the former Brighton man could only manage to shoot wide. Stoner then saved Steve Harper’s effort from the six yards box before substitute Tony Battersby hit over from close range.

The Wings finally drew level on 70 minutes when Kedwell crossed low for Harper to poke home. Further chances for both Welling and Bognor were squandered late on leaving the two sides to share the points.

Welling's next game is against Thurrock on Tuesday evening. The match will be played at Princes Park, the home of Dartford FC.

Come on you Wings!
