So, here we are once again on the final day of another season. Despite not making the playoffs this season has been a huge improvement on last year.

The final game of the season saw Wings Boss Adrian Pennock make just the one change from last weeks sucker punch against Sutton. James Pinnock replaced Che Stadhart upfront, his first start in over 6 games.

The Wings started the brighter of the two sides and should really have taken an early lead through Matt Bodkin. The pacy midfielder raced clear of the Bishops defence but his effort on goal was well saved by the legs of Andy Young and the resulting ball was fired wide by Rob Owen.

Further chances for Welling defender John Guest were squandered and the Bishops nearly took advantage of these missed opportunities. A Danny Mitchell cross was picked up by Duane Jackman but his effort deflected just over the bar.

Jackman again caught Welling napping at the back and the home side were lucky not to have gone in at the break trailing to the visiting side. Jackman raced into the Wings penalty area and one on one with keeper Jamie Turner, Jackman fired straight at the player of the year runner up.

The second half saw little action in front of goal and it wasn't until the first minute of stoppage time that Welling could have snatched a late winner.

Daniel Moore's through pass found Rob Owen clear on goal, but the midfielder's lob fell just inches over the bar.

To round off an excellent season the ‘End Of Season Presentation Dinner and Dance’ was a huge success drawing 120+ people to the event.

So until next season, thank you for taking the time to visit the website and supporting Welling United.

Come on you Wings!

It would be of been nice to win but a draw just sums it up.

Looking back it has been a decent season, we are all disappointed we didn’t make the playoffs but I would have taken the Cup Runs and the League position at the start of the season. I would also like to thank the supporters as they have been a different class.

I have decided which players will stay and we shall have a meeting with the players on Tuesday to discuss it. Financially it is a big factor, we have discussed this in the past week or two which forces my hand with what to do with the budget they give me.
