Welling United extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 games on Saturday with an impressive 5-0 home win to Bedford Town. A brace for the on form Che Stadhart, one for Danny Kedwell and two own goals wrapped up a perfect afternoon for the Wings.

Welling made just the one change for the side that won midweek in the FA Cup against AFC Hornchurch with the versatile Steve Perkins replacing defender Chris Moore.

The Wings were quick out of the blocks and it took them just five minutes to take the lead. A low cross from Ellis Green found Danny Kedwell whose drive was parried into the path of Bedford's Matt Childs who headed into his own net. Six minutes later and Che Stadhart saw his volley fly just past the post.

It didn't take long for the Wings to double their lead scoring a second on 15 minutes. Jamie Turner's goal kick was flicked on by Stadhart allowing Kedwell through on goal where the striker managed to skip past the keeper and slot home into an empty net for his twelfth league goal of the season.

Welling were in total control and restricted Bedford to half chances at best. They should have had a third two minutes later when Jamie Day's free-kick met the head of Martin Carthy but the midfielder couldn't direct his effort goalwards.

Matt Bodkin will be disappointed that he wasn't on Saturday’s scoresheet. Kedwell's cutback allowed Bodkin to curl the ball just wide of the post when the midfielder should have done better.

The second period was much the same with Welling dominating play and continuing to press forward. The Wings added a third just ten minutes after the restart. Jamie Turner's long ball was nodded on by Kedwell where Stadhart fired the ball off the underside of the bar into the back of the net.

Deserved man of the match Che Stadhart added a second to his tally just after the hour mark. Jamie Day's ball was chested down by the striker and volleyed home from the edge of the box.

He was denied another just two minutes later when Carthy's pass was driven low by Stadhart and flicked round the post by Ian Brown.

Substitute Akwasi Edusei went close to scoring his first for the club on 70 minutes. Edusei latched onto John Guest’s through pass but his shot was saved low by the feet of Brown.

The rout was completed minutes from time. Guest's free-kick saw Bedford defender Gavin Hoyte head the ball backwards over his own keeper into the net.

It's back to the FA Cup on Saturday, in a huge game at Park View Road between Welling United and Clevedon Town.

Welling also travel to Cray Wanderers on Wednesday in the London Senior Cup. Both teams will send weaker sides, but there will be reduced admission.

Come on you Wings!

Extracts from the Interview:
"A fantastic win, I thought from the first whistle to the last we were superb. I thought we thoroughly deserved it and all the players were first class. I love clean sheets, and I know this team can score goals so if we can keep clean sheets we will win more games than not.

The overall performance was fantastic, especially after Wednesday as it was difficult. I thought the fans really got behind us and all credit to them, as I’m really pleased the team put on a performance for the fans. I’m going to give him (Che Stadhart) the hat trick, as he worked very well with Kedwell. The wide boys looked dangerous, the midfield players picked up all the second balls and the goals came from upfront so a very pleasing result."
